Touchstone Developments Corporation opened a new show home in Saskatoon’s east side earlier this year. The Benchmark floor plan has been a popular one for the builder since they debuted it in phase one of the Brighton neighbourhood.
According to Emily Birchfield, project coordinator and designer with Touchstone says one feature that got a lot of positive feedback from buyers and visitors was the front veranda. If homeowners have to wait to develop the backyard, the front deck will allow homeowners to enjoy some outdoor space.
At 1,538 square feet over two floors the Benchmark feels like a step up from typical entry-level laneway homes. Three bedrooms and two-and-a-half baths are not unusual, but the layout is unique and roomier than most.
The rear of the house has an entry area with laundry and a powder room. The basement is unfinished, but with a nine-foot ceiling, it has lots of room for a bright, well-lit space.
The main level features a modern kitchen with quartz countertops, white cabinetry, and white tile backsplash.
Touchstone offers three different exterior styles — a craftsman, prairie, and prairie modern. The homes’ exteriors will ensure the neighbourhood has a fresh and distinctive look.
Upstairs three spacious bedrooms provide room for a family. The owner’s suite includes a walk-in closet, large windows, and a dual-sink vanity in the ensuite. Details like and board and batten square accent wall will make the home attractive to buyers looking for some unique flair.
Birchfield says the floor plan has proven attractive for first time home buyers as well as buyers who are looking to downsize.
“It’s been a really great home for first time home buyers, but then also empty nesters,” she says. “Because it has all the features that they’re looking for, but the quality is just a little bit more what they’re used to for when they’re downsizing.”
The Benchmark starts at $393,900. Touchstone offers a unique build calculator — an interactive spreadsheet that allows buyers to customize finishes, features, layout, and mechanical systems.
“People have the choice to go through and customize their house,” says Birchfield. “We bring the house up to a certain stage (of finishing) and then they can go through and pick the laminate, the wall colour, and any upgrades that they might want.”
The build calculator will automatically give the buyers a final cost, so they can choose what to prioritize in their new home.
A three-car detached garage will be added to the show home next spring. There are several homes by Touchstone on this street and they are all wide enough to accommodate a three-car detached garage.
Birchfield adds, “One of the nice things about having the garage detached is that you get windows on the front and back, so you get a lot of sunlight in this one.”
The extra light, plus the charming front veranda will make the Benchmark popular with visitors.
This Touchstone show home at 238 Dubois Crescent is open for viewing from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and weekends and holidays from noon to 5 p.m.
