A former Florida nanny will be getting a two-decade-long time out session after she had sex with an 11-year-old boy and later gave birth to his child.
In a Hillsbourgh County courtroom on Wednesday, 28-year-old Marissa Mowry was sentenced to 20 years in prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a boy she looked after over a period of several months, the Tampa Bay Times reported. She later gave birth to the boy’s son in October 2014.
On top of the prison sentence, Mowry must also serve 10 years of probation and register as a sex offender.
The Times reported Mowry continued to have sex with the boy, now 17, after giving birth to their son. The victim told his mother about the abuse in 2017, some three years after it first began.
While it was initially believed the father of the child was Mowry’s then-boyfriend, a DNA test proved otherwise.
Mowry was hired by the family in early 2014 based on a recommendation of a relative, the Times reported. The woman later moved in with them.
The victim’s mother, Nadene Campell, said she once considered Mowry to be her daughter, but her sexual escapades with the victim changed all that.
“We’re talking about a child that was 11,” said Campbell. “Not even a teenager. Eleven.”
According to Campbell, the victim now takes care of his five-year-old son himself. Being a father has impacted the teen’s social life, she said.
“It cost him his childhood. He’s not going to know teen years like a regular teenager,” Campbell told WTVT. “Who wants to date a 17-year-old that has a 5-year-old? Not many.
“Know the people your children are around. Investigate everything. You are your child’s biggest advocate.”
In September, Mowry pleaded guilty to multiple counts of sexual battery on a victim under the age of 12, WTVT reported.
