Squatter bites Mountie during arrest

A recent call about a squatter at a home in Fort Saskatchewan ended with one police officer suffering minor injuries.

Fort Saskatchewan RCMP said officers were called to a vacant home on 101 Street on Sunday, June 6 after reports of a squatter in the building.

RCMP said they tried to arrest a man in the home when he allegedly became violent.

Investigators said he became combative with the arresting officers and began grabbing and biting one of them. The officer sustained minor injuries during the incident but two civilians helped get the suspect under control and arrested.

RCMP said the suspect was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A 42-year-old Edmonton man, whose name was not released, was arrested and charges are pending.

Fort Saskatchewan RCMP is looking for any witnesses to the incident to come forward or anyone with video of the arrest to contact officers.
