She was definitely a gem in her first year playing soccer at Olds.
Sherwood Park’s Jewels Hallock was recently named the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference’s (ACAC) 2019-20 Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Year for her play in net for the Olds College Broncos.
Hallock played her high school soccer with the Salisbury Sabres and competed in club for FC Edmonton.
The Sherwood stopper had a strong showing as rookie goaltender for Olds, ranking at or near the top in several statistical categories.
Despite missing the final two games of the season due to injury, Hallock ranked second in the ACAC in save percentage with a .872 (tops in ACAC South), sixth in goals against average with 1.50 (third in ACAC South), third in saves with 102 (second in South) and third with six wins (tops in the South).
She also had three shutouts this season (sixth in ACAC and third in ACAC South) and was also ranked fifth with 900 minutes played (tops in ACAC South).
“Her solid work ethic, technique and leadership have been a major asset to our team,” said Broncos soccer head coach Niels Slotboom. “Julianna has shown a lot of growth on and off the field this season and we are proud to have her as part of our Broncos Family.”
Hallock, who is studying to be a veterinary medical receptionist, received her award at the recent 2019 ACAC Women’s Soccer Championship at NAIT.
