The Kirkland Lake Aquatic Club Stingrays kicked off the swim season with a great meet in Sault Ste. Marie.

Kate Ivanov won the silver medal for girls 13 total pentathlon time (total time of each of the stroke and freestyle 50s plus 200 IM).

Brooke Pettanuzzo won the bronze medal for girls 11 year olds. Addison Ivanov placed fourth for the girls 10 and under event. Jordan Thomas placed sixth amongst girls 15/over for stroke 100s and 400 IM.

Ivanov bettered last season’s qualifying standard for the girls 13-14 50 m breaststroke. The club is just awaiting new published times for the 2020 meet to be held in Sault Ste. Marie.

Thomas will join the NEOR senior team in Sudbury to compete against the varsity teams from Laurentian University and Waterloo. Coach Rod Thomas will also be in attendance as part of the NEOR coaching staff.

Looking back on the competition ‘Rays Head Coach Rod Thomas stated it was a good way to start the season.

“There are girls in Sault Ste. Marie who have committed to the NCAA so to rub shoulders with those caliber of athletes and watch those caliber of athletes in meets is good for them (the ‘Rays swimmers). They will learn and get something from it.”
